It’s a shrew not a mole. Not a vole, not a mole.
A shrew.
Where basement invaders are concerned we have moles.
I don’t know where they get in. I’ve always thought the little rodents have come in during the summer, when the doors are frequently ajar for long and often unforgotten periods of time.
Two years ago I caught more than a dozen mice in the kitchen. I’d be sitting at the wooden table, sipping a glass of wine reading the paper at the end of the day and there’d be a scritch scritch scritch in the corner.
I feel a sudden and endearing kinship to Beatrix Potter with these small creatures darting about the house.
This is where those dollar store butterfly nets come in handy!
We have been dealing with mice lately as well. Except my dear DH will only set out live traps, then the mice can be moved a far enough distance from the house. Sometimes even across the bridge. For the last two days, we’ve released a tiny mouse, just down the hill. I swear each morning, the same mouse is back.

Great plan on the butterfly nets. Don’t know where the little guy/gal is now but I’ll be ready at the next rustle!

Ok. her snout is too long. But very endearing.
My immediate thought was that dear dear Mrs. Tiggy=Winkle had come to visit at your house. Flash of envy that I had not been there to have tea.

A shrew, a vole – okay – tux caught one once – (i saved it from him) but he was very pleased with hisself – however, dozens of mice – no, no no – one must draw a line….bring in the cats… they find the most amazingly small cracks and wiggle in every fall, when it cools off at night. … call the exterminator, he will find and fill all the cracks…
